About the programme

What is the Mid-Career Pathways Programme?

MCP is a Workforce Singapore attachment programme — a structured traineeship that lets companies host mid-career professionals for up to six months before committing to a permanent hire.

The key distinction from CCP is the employment relationship. Under MCP, the trainee is not a permanent employee during the programme. The host company pays a monthly training allowance — between $1,800 and $3,800 depending on the candidate's profile — and Workforce Singapore co-funds 70% of that cost. You pay only your 30% share for the full attachment duration.

MCP suits two situations well. The first is a company that wants to assess a mid-career professional in the role before committing to full-time employment — reducing the hiring risk of taking on someone who is switching sectors and has no direct track record in the new field. The second is a professional mid-career pivot: someone exploring a new industry can use MCP as a structured pathway into a field they haven't worked in before.

Attachments run from three to six months. At the end, you can convert the trainee to a permanent position — and potentially apply separately for CCP salary support if the converted role qualifies — or close the attachment without obligation on either side. WSG expects the attachment to be a genuine learning experience, not a substitute for a standard hire, and the training plan and supervisor structure need to reflect that.

MCP is less widely known than CCP, but for the right hire it is a more flexible and lower-risk entry point into mid-career workforce development funding. We help companies structure the attachment in a way that satisfies WSG requirements and gives both sides the best chance of a good outcome.

MCP meaning in Singapore

What does MCP mean for Singapore employers?

In Singapore workforce funding, MCP usually refers to the Mid-Career Pathways Programme, a WSG-supported attachment programme for mature or mid-career individuals exploring a new role or sector. It is not a salary subsidy for a permanent employee. It is an attachment arrangement where the host company provides workplace exposure, supervision and a monthly training allowance.

For employers, MCP can be useful when you want to assess a mid-career candidate before making a permanent hire, or when the candidate needs time to learn a new sector. The host company pays the approved monthly allowance, and WSG support helps reduce the net cost during the attachment period.

If the attachment later converts into a permanent role, the company may be able to explore a separate CCP application depending on the role, candidate profile and timing. We check those pathways during the free eligibility consultation so you can choose the right route before committing.

How MCP works in practice

Unlike a traditional hire or internship, MCP follows a structured attachment model designed for mid-career exploration.

Attachment period

  • Lasts between 3 to 6 months depending on the scope of the placement
  • The trainee is not a permanent employee — this is a structured attachment
  • Host company provides meaningful mentorship and on-the-job learning
  • Both sides evaluate fit before committing to long-term employment
  • Flexible structure that can be tailored to your company's needs

Monthly allowance structure

  • Allowance of $1,800 to $3,800 per month, set by the host company
  • Designed to cover the trainee's living expenses during the attachment
  • WSG co-funds 70% of the approved allowance — confirmed at eligibility assessment
  • Paid directly by the host company; WSG reimbursement follows later
  • No CPF contributions required during the attachment period

Choosing the right programme

MCP or CCP — which fits your situation?

Both programmes support workforce development in Singapore, but they work differently. Here is how to tell which one applies to your hire.

Use MCP when...

  • You want to trial a mid-career professional before committing to a permanent hire
  • The candidate is switching sectors and has no direct track record in the new role
  • A $1,800–$3,800 monthly training allowance fits the arrangement better than a full salary
  • You can provide structured mentorship and a genuine learning plan for the attachment period
  • Reducing hiring risk is the priority — the attachment carries no permanent employment obligation

Use CCP when...

  • You are ready to make a direct permanent hire or redeploy an existing employee into a new function
  • The role requires a full market-rate salary from day one — not a training allowance
  • Your company operates in a CCP-covered sector with a qualifying role list
  • You want salary support for up to 12 months (versus MCP's 6-month attachment cap)
  • The conversion is clear — the new role differs substantially from the hire's previous work history

The right choice depends on your specific hire, role and timeline. Your free consultation covers both options and tells you which applies — or whether both are worth pursuing in sequence.
