About the programme

What OMIP covers — and what it expects

The Overseas Markets Immersion Programme (OMIP) funds Singapore companies sending employees abroad to build genuine international market capability — not routine business travel or short-term project work.

OMIP provides two types of support over a nine-month programme. Basic salary support runs from $4,000 to $5,000 per month, capped at $5,000. An overseas allowance of up to $3,000 per month covers overseas living costs. Both components are co-funded at 70% by Workforce Singapore, meaning your net cost for an employee on the maximum package is approximately $2,400 per month in salary support and $900 in allowance — against the $8,000 gross total you are paying out.

The programme has a firm residency requirement: the employee must be outstationed in the target market for at least six of the nine months. This rules out postings that are primarily Singapore-based with occasional overseas travel. The employee must be physically present in the overseas market, working on activities that directly build the company's commercial footprint there.

Any overseas market qualifies provided there is a credible business case. Most OMIP postings go to Southeast Asian markets, China, India and the Middle East, but the programme is not restricted by geography. Workforce Singapore evaluates whether the posting is likely to generate real commercial results — building that business case is one of the first things we help you with.

OMIP is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents in roles that directly contribute to the overseas market strategy. The employee's salary, job scope, and the company's market entry plan all factor into the application. We help you prepare the full documentation and guide you through liaising with the agency to approval and disbursement.

OMIP grant Singapore

What is the OMIP grant?

The OMIP grant is designed for Singapore companies that need an employee to be based overseas long enough to build commercial capability in a target market. It is most relevant when the overseas posting is tied to market entry, business development, distributor management, regional operations or other work that cannot be done effectively from Singapore alone.

The programme combines basic salary support with an overseas allowance. The employee must meet the programme's profile requirements, and the company must show a credible business case for the overseas posting. Short business trips, routine travel and loosely defined overseas exposure usually do not fit the intent of OMIP.

Because OMIP applications depend heavily on the overseas business case, we help employers shape the posting plan, funding estimate and supporting documents before submission. That upfront planning makes the application clearer and helps avoid mismatches between the job scope and what the grant is meant to support.
